Ezra Home Care: National Social Work Month!

March is National Professional Social Work Month!

Who are Social Workers?

(Hint: they are are awesome and warmhearted people)
Social Workers are mental health professionals who provide supportive counseling to patients and families. They help people problem-solve, improve attitudes, and change behaviors that can negatively impact health. They can have a positive effect on patient satisfaction by helping to develop self-advocacy skills and link patients and families to vital resources in the hospital and community.

Professional social workers advocate for change that helps people lead productive and healthy lives, especially when navigating through major life challenges, according to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), which is celebrating National Professional Social Work Month in March.

Social workers focus on improvements that ultimately benefit the most people. Therefore, the collaborative and consultative nature of their work ensures that social workers make a critical impact in many different organizations and human service systems. These areas include aging and family caregiving, child protection and family services, healthcare navigation, mental and behavioral health treatment, military and veterans assistance, nonprofit management, community development and poverty reduction. Social work is very important in the rapidly growing field of aging.

Do you know of a social worker that you would like to honor? Contact us and we will share their story on our blog.

NASW members work as specialists, consultants, private practitioners, educators, community leaders, policymakers and researchers in more than 50 fields of practice in workplace settings ranging from private and public agencies, hospices and hospitals, schools and clinics—to businesses and corporations, military units and foundations.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Social Work Matters,” and recognizes social work professionals’ expertise in care coordination, case management and treatment. The contributions of American’s 640,000 professionals in the integrative field of social work help to improve the social function and social condition for people in emotional, psychological economic and physical need. This includes advocacy for millions of people living with disabilities.
