Visit Newton Seniors Center! September is National Senior Center Month at Newton Seniors Center

 

  • BBQ by Springwell, Wednesday, September 15- 11:45. Pre-register by 11am the previous day. Donation, $1.75.Music & celebration!
  • Dedication of display cabinet in Dining Room- 12:15, Monday, September 20. (see page 5)
  • World Alzheimer’s Day Ceremony at lunch Tuesday, September 21, 12:00. 
  • Pizza Lunch, September 23, at 11:45 sponsored by The Stone Institute. Pre-register by 11am the previous day. $3 collected at the door. This is also Fall Prevention Awareness Day and Spaulding Rehabilitation Center will present a lunch talk about preventing falls.

BOWL the Modern Way!

The Newton Senior Center will be starting a “Wii Bowling League” in late September. If you are interested please sign-up with our receptionist and you will be contacted with details prior to the start date (to be announced). Bowling can be done standing or seated and will take place right here at the center! Have a “virtual” good time, while you get fit.

 

Matter of Balance

It is time to pre-register for the “Matter of Balance” program made possible by the Newton/Wellesley Hospital. Attendance is expected at all 8 weekly meetings.  (Wednesdays, 1-2:30pm, starting on October 6). Space is limited and a wait list will be kept for a future session. Each meeting will include lecture/ discussion, videos and exercises aimed at educating individuals in Fall Prevention. The course is taught by fitness professional, Robin Resnick. There is no charge, donations accepted. This course should be taken one time only as it is “introductory” and those wishing to continue this targeted exercise program may do so by registering for “Beyond Balance”, also taught by Robin Resnick, on Mondays, 12:45-1:45. $50 for 8 weeks, starting October 18. (Pre-register/pre-pay by October 6.)

 

Writers Workshop

Join Bernice Bennett and others with the “writing bug” every week on Wednesdays at 10:00a.m. for support and encouragement.

Short Story Discussion Group

Join Ditta Lowy as she leads a monthly short story discussion group. Meeting will be the last Thursday of each month at 10:30am. The stories will be provided to those who pre-register.
